Michael Woodfield is a New Zealand trained and qualified Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon with specialised training from world renowned surgeons in hand and microvascular surgery, paediatric plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery.

Now resident in Hamilton, Mike is passionate about providing the highest standard of surgical expertise and care for the people of the Waikato, Taranaki and Bay of Plenty regions.

Mike is currently on the Council of the New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons, and is a member of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. As part of being a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Waikato Hospital, Mike is a member of Multidisciplinary Working Groups on Melanoma Skin Cancer, Head and Neck Cancer, Vascular Anomalies, Non-melanotic Skin Cancer, and Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery. He is also involved in the ongoing teaching and training of future plastic surgeons.

Providing the highest standard of surgical care, Mike is an affiliated provider with Southern Cross Healthcare and a regular provider of surgery for ACC.

Mike graduated from Otago Medical School in 1998, and was President of his class. He went on to complete a Diploma in Paediatric Medicine from the University of Auckland before pursuing surgical training. He gained valuable experience in general surgery, paediatric surgery and neurosurgery before completing his Plastic and Reconstructive surgical training and becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2010.

After achieving his FRACS, Mike was appointed as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.

He then chose to pursue further fellowship training in Melbourne, Australia, at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Working with leading plastic surgeons Mike specialised in paediatric plastic surgery and hand and microvascular surgery. He gained specific experience in brachial plexus reconstruction, complex hand surgery, congenital hand surgery, microtia, and smile reconstruction for facial palsy.

While in Melbourne Mike was also involved in numerous cosmetic procedures including facelifts, eyelid rejuvenation, advanced rhinoplasty, breast augmentation and reduction, body contouring and abdominoplasty. Mike also held a Plastic Trauma Consultant post at the Epworth Hospital in Melbourne.

When not busy with surgery, Mike is busy at home with his four young children, or can be found relaxing with a fishing rod, or, more infrequently now, a surfboard or skis.
